A competitive, high-quality series of smart plugs that meets market demands and regulatory standards. Devices can be used separately or as sets, not only in homes but also harsh factory environments.

While the market already offers a range of smart plugs, the saturation means there is also a significant opportunity for differentiation. The existing products, like the TP-Link Tapo P100, Wemo Mini, and Amazon Smart Plug, each have their strengths and limitations. By analyzing these limitations and leveraging advanced technology, together with our client we could introduce a product that offers enhanced features and addresses common pain points of current users.

Common Limitations with Existing Products:

  1. Limited Functionality: Many existing smart plugs offer basic on/off control and scheduling but lack advanced features like detailed energy monitoring.
  2. Limited Usability: Most of the products are designed to work only at homes and are unable to withstand the dust and humidity of factories.
  3. User Experience Issues: Some smart plugs have complex setup processes, poor app interfaces, or unreliable connectivity.
  4. Compatibility Concerns: Not all smart plugs seamlessly integrate with all smart home ecosystems or voice assistants.

Product Development Phases

1. Concept Development

We defined product vision: our client agreed that their priorities were reliable, secure, and easy-to-use smart plugs with energy monitoring. The key features include Wi-Fi connectivity, remote control via mobile app, voice assistant compatibility (Alexa, Google Assistant), scheduling, and energy usage monitoring.

2. Design and Prototyping

We developed initial prototypes for testing hardware and software integration. Based on the test results, we refined the design in a few iterations. Our work included:

Hardware Design:

3. Testing and Validation:

We verified basic operations: on/off control, scheduling, energy monitoring, Wi-Fi connectivity, and integration with voice assistants.

We ensured compliance with electrical safety standards (e.g., CE, FCC), conducting basic tests regarding, among others electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), environmental tests, and others. Then, we helped our client to find a certified laboratory and fill out the necessary papers.
